A weekend full of visiting friends. Here's some of us Sunday afternoon having a lunch of noodles by the canal in Harbin. Kavi (the Indian fellow sitting on the left of me) got married this summer to his beautiful bride and is studying at Heilongjiang University of Technology. The others (Ellen, David, Daniel) are studying at other universities in Harbin. None were my direct students.
Hancock was my direct student at HST. He is always ready to make arrangements for my stay and spend time with me. He and Christina make a cute couple and there they are early Sunday morning seeing me off at the bus stop as I make my way into Harbin.
Sunday morning worship was at a church in Harbin where an English service is held for Chinese and foreigners together. I had the joy of taking 3 students with me.
Monday morning a visit to St. Sophia's, a centerpiece in Harbin. Heavily damaged during the Cultural Revolution, it has been restored by the city and is now open for tours. (It's no longer used as a place of worship.) Buildings once surrounding the church were torn down so that it now sets in a large open square complete with fountains and other architectural delights.
