Just when I began wondering what picture I would take next to post, I come upon this scene on the sidewalk near the Art College. I have no idea what it's about. Is it a piece of art, or is it something symbolic rooted in Chinese tradition? I'll have to do some checking on this one!
The white objects are steamed buns called montou. A brick is in the upper left corner, and the gray blob-pile is a guess.
Here is what one of my students has offered regarding this scene: "As far as I know,it's an old Chinese custom to put some food outside on the anniversary of family member's death. In most cases, people do this at midnight. Most young people think it's sort of superstition ,so only senior citizens and some middle-aged people follow this tradition."
